What CISOs Must Do When Cyberattacks Spread Like Wildfire

CISO Panels

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve seen the damage forest fires have wreaked upon landscapes and communities in recent years. When a forest fire moves at the speed of 80 football fields per minute, fire fighters are powerless to contain the blaze. Unfortunately, CISOs can relate. Once a file containing malicious code is opened, malware can spread like wildfire throughout an organization’s network, taking down systems and bringing business operations to a grinding halt. The days of quarantining the virus and isolating the damage are over. Malware outbreaks like NotPetya and WannaCry proved that cyberattacks can cripple an organization in minutes. What’s a CISO to do? Fortunately, automation has emerged recently as a critical tool in combatting these cyberattacks. If a cyberattack can spread in minutes, automation allows CISOs to respond in minutes. In fact, you could say automation lets CISOs fight fire with fire.

CISO Street moderated a panel last year in Chicago and asked CISOs about their perspectives on the CISO role and industry trends. In this video, Richard Rushing, CISO for Motorola Mobility, shares one of his top priorities for his organization in light of the speed a modern cyberattack can take down a network.
